A wonderful, sane, and spirited accomplishment. It is a very humane multi-protagonist drama empathetic to characters on all sides of the dispute at the WTO in '99: the protesters, the mayor, a policeman, an envoy from Doctors Without Borders, an African dignitary, a news reporter and her cameraman. Only occasionally do a few lines of dialogue seem too message-y or the plot seem contrived. Aided by very genuine and affecting performances from Charlize Theron, Woody Harrelson, and Ray Liotta, it also has a riveting ensemble of lesser-known actors as the lead protesters. When Hollywood tries to show rebellious characters the rebellion is usually hollow and superficial, as the producers are so clueless and uninvolved. By contrast, this indie is passionate, & made with a feeling of love and concern. It seems to really understand the activist culture it is depicting; their aims, and the obstacles against them. It's timely, and in terms of subject matter, groundbreaking.

This was a great movie with a realistic and very compelling storyline. I grew up in Seattle and remember the WTO protests of 1999. Director Stuart Townsend does an amazing job of portraying the events from the point of view of both ends of the protests. This movie has phenomenal acting, great cinematography, and an intriguing story as well. Definately a must see!

I saw this film when it premiered at the toronto film festival. I did not want to go but my wife took me as she wanted to see and some of the cast was at the premier. I was expecting a boring look at a piece of american history that most do not know about or care. I was blown away at what I saw - and what I learned. Every americian should see this film ,....it is powerful, well acted and not only important but a entertaining watch. A Must Go!

Ok- This movie's hot. There's gonna be a lot of buzz about it. It's masterfully directed and well acted. Tonight I saw it at the Angelika Film Center in Manhattan and had the opportunity to be in a dialogue with director Townsend, Charlize and an amazing male lead named Martin Henderson. They were really laid back and cool but acknowledged that they cannot do an entire social commentary and enjoy creative license within 98 minutes. But, it was really, really good. I don't know when this is gonna be in wide release for the rest of the country; but, you will get the opportunity to see an actual protest movie that has good character development and just enough backstory to give you an epic sense of what happened. Shocking moments; drama; comedy and tears. This d_mn thing had everything. I'm not a plant; I'm not a protest-nazi and I'm not a professional film critic- but I don't have to be either one to recognize great storytellig that keeps you glued until the end. See it now!!

Never before have I seen a film that so clearly conveys the complex interpersonal dynamics that arguably play as large a part in mass political movements as do political platforms, statistics, famous names and dates. The filmmakers went above and beyond in creating characters that could not be easily classified as "Good" or "Bad," drawing upon the idea of the personal as political and reminding us that at the heart of all political movements is the collective experience of humanity where no plight can be deemed more or less important than another.
